Using our Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status and the special Arts OutWest Cultural Fund, we took in and managed funding donations towards the professional film production of a short dramatized film ‘Miro’.
Led by Victoria Wharfe McIntyre (Director), Fran Dobbie (Writer) and Amadeo Marquez-Perez for Earthstar Productions, ‘Miro’ was filmed in 2016 in and around Condobolin and involved many members of the local community as both extras and supporting crew.
‘Miro’ tells the story of a WWII Aboriginal Western, and stars AACTA Award-nominated actor Mark Coles Smith (LAST CAB TO DARWIN, PAWNO) and Aaron McGrath (JASPER JONES, GLITCH, THE CODE).
Award winning film
‘Miro’ went on to be nominated for the 7th AACTA Awards in 2017 in the categories Best Short Fiction Film and Best Short Animation.
The film’s nomination followed sell out screenings at GI Film Festival in Washington DC. ‘Miro’ was also officially selected in the 66th Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) in 2017. Producer Victoria was selected in the Accelerator Lab for short film makers.
