Media Associates photography exhibition

Arts OutWest are delighted to present Behind the Lens, an exhibition of photography, comprised of still and moving images. The personal work of Media Associates presented in this exhibition has been curated by Arts OutWest staff members Nicola Mason and Steven Cavanagh. Our Media Associates are a group of talented and passionate photographers.  Each is an artist in their own right and each is pursuing their own style and story.  In this exhibition, each artist’s images sit together within a themed mini-series. They generously share with the viewer an engaging story through their series and/or images which show their rich play and experimentation.

In 2019 Arts OutWest started a program called the Media Associates. After a public call out, a group of photographers across the Arts OutWest region were selected to be our team of photographers and digital storytellers. They have been tasked with capturing both Arts OutWest projects and arts and culture activities across the Central West. They have also been vital in capturing great images for our Culture Maps Central NSW website project:

Behind the Lens is the second exhibition of Media Associates personal work. In February 2020, Arts OutWest curated an exhibition of the Media Associates’ personal work at t.arts Gallery in Bathurst. This group exhibition of personal work was called TEN.

Thank you to Forbes Shire Council for providing St Anthony’s Church as the first exhibition space for ‘Behind the Lens’. We thank Karl Shead, Technical Officer with the Arts and Education Faculty of Charles Sturt University for creating the exhibition plinth structures.

Dr Tracey Callinan OAM, Regional Arts NSW opened the Behind the Lens Media Associate exhibition 1st June 2024.  This exhibition opened in conjunction with a series of three exhibitions at Forbes Town Hall precinct and the first leg of Arts OutWest regional Plinth Show at Forbes Visitor Information Centre all celebrating Arts OutWest’s 50th Anniversary.  Behind the Lens will then travel to other venues in the Central West region including forming part of the exhibitions in hospitals program as part of Arts OutWest Arts and Health program.
