Mudgee. Through this year’s CASP funding Mid-Western Regional Council host a series of visual art-based workshops are open to the community. Register for a workshop!
The project aims to upskill artists to deliver workshops to community groups to provide access to the benefits of arts experiences. Two artist/educators will work with ten artists to present workshops to enhance wellbeing in the community in areas of disability, health, youth, schools and families.
All workshops are held in the workshop rooms at Mudgee Arts Precinct.

Teaching Aboriginal Culture Awareness through Art – a guide for teachers and arts workers
Aleshia Lonsdale is a well-known Wiradjuri artist, curator and educator. The Mudgee Arts Precinct is offering this opportunity for teachers and arts workers who are wanting to develop a more skilful and culturally aware approach to facilitating leaning about both Aboriginal culture and art. Local teachers, arts workers and artists are encouraged to attend.
Portrait painting with Kim Harding – Getting started for the 2024 Mudgee Portrait Prize
Kim Harding’s oil-based portraits were much admired at the inaugural Mudgee Portrait Prize and have since been featured in Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine. Kim will deliver a series of two workshops to help local artists create a work for this year’s Mudgee Portrait Prize. In this first workshop Kim will share her process with participants and help them to get started on their entry.
Portrait painting with Sam Paine – a workshop for artists with a disability
Sam Paine is a well-known local artist, writer and actor with a wealth of experience in community projects. This workshop is open to people with a disability who would like to create a portrait for the 2024 Mudgee Portrait Prize. Participants will have the opportunity to choose from a range of mediums and experiment with a number of techniques. All levels of skill and experience welcome.

Kim will deliver a series of two workshops to help local artists create a work for this year’s Mudgee Portrait Prize. In this second workshop, Kim will provide feedback and direction to artists that have a portrait in progress and revise techniques from the first workshop.
Cartooning with David Squires – a workshop for young artists – Starting your portrait
David Squires is an internationally regarded cartoonist who works for the Guardian and several European publications. In his weekly cartoons David regularly captures the likeness of some of the world’s best known faces with just a few lines. David will deliver a series of two workshops to help young artists create a work for this year’s Mudgee Portrait Prize. In this workshop, David will share some of his experiences and insights before demonstrating his process for capturing the essence of a face. Young artist will then have an opportunity to use David’s knowledge and expertise as they begin to plan and create their entry for the 2024 Mudgee Portrait Prize.
