Supporting four Central West playwrights to develop four new full length plays

Lingua Franca in partnership with Q Theatre, BMEC and Arts OutWest supported four Central West playwrights to develop four new full length plays that amplify the Regional Australian artistic voice.

This was made possible through funding from Create NSW’s Regional Partnership program.

The writers were matched with dramaturgs for the year. Joined by directors and actors the teams had two week-long blocks of development on the works – one at BMEC in Bathurst and one at The Q Theatre in Penrith.

There was a day of public readings from the plays at Penrith Regional Gallery in December 2019 (the Bathurst readings were cancelled due to the bushfire situation at the time).

One of the works, KANGAROO by Miranda Gott, has been programmed for the BMEC and The Joan subscription seasons in 2020.

Writers/ works:
– Adam Deusien ‘A Good Bloke’
– Miranda Gott ‘Kangaroo’
– JoJo Zhou ‘Porpoise Pool’
– Maryanne Jaques ‘The Patient Fishman’
