In a project by Parkes Shire Council in the Marramarra Makerspace, textile artist Pippita Bennett led participants to create their own canvas mounted stitched miniature landscapes using naturally dyed and thrifted fabric.
The workshop participants engaged with different embroidery stitches including French knots, blanket stitch, fly stitch and the simple running stitch. Along with the joys of slow stitching and experiencing the meditative and restorative quality of working with textiles was lots of chatter and connecting too.
This workshop followed a one day brooch making workshop by Pippita Bennett also using naturally dyed and thrifted fabric and threads.
This is a project of Parkes Shire Council supported by Arts OutWest through the NSW Government’s Country Arts Support Program.
