Shani Nottingham’s second workshop as part of the her COWRA CREATES project saw Cowra community members coming to the Nguluway Room between Cowra Regional Art Gallery and Cowra Library to create beside each other. Post cards galore were created in amongst much community cheer.
Devised by artist Shani Nottingham, COWRA CREATES gives people of any age and ability the opportunity to create an artwork. It is a celebration and recognition of the rich creativity that is in our community.
“The idea began with a simple proposition – that if I supplied the materials and mediums, the space and the opportunity for people of all ages and abilities in our community to create ( draw, paint, illustrate, sew, collage etc ) will they do so?” Shani says.
If you missed this session, there is plenty of opportunity to get involved.
Shani has set up ‘creation stations’ with art materials, blank A5 postcards for creating on, and post boxes ( made by The Cowra Mens’ Shed) for participants to put their completed artworks in. These boxes and cards are now in place for picking up and dropping off at:

- Cowra CINC ( information and neighbourhood centre )
- Redfern St. Op shop
- Cowra Visitors Information Centre
- Cowra Art Group ( cards only )
- Little Magpie Gallery ( cards only )
- Cowra Regional Art Gallery

People are invited to create right there on the spot, or they can take them home, complete there, then put them back into one of the boxes around Cowra.
The next COWRA CREATES workshop facilitated by Shani Nottingham is being held Monday 20 October at Cowra Information and Neighbourhood Centre (opposite Cowra Public School) Vaux Street, Cowra, from 10-12. Official opening Sunday 26 October 2pm.
The culmination of this project will be an exhibition of all the work, at The Cowra Micro Gallery (2 October – 9 November), giving people who may otherwise never have thought of having work in a gallery the chance to see their work there, and showing off to the wider world the depth of creativity within Cowra.
The Country Arts Support Program (CASP) is a devolved funding program coordinated locally by the 15 regional arts development organisations in NSW on behalf of the NSW Government (Via Create NSW).
In 2025 seven arts activities across the NSW Central West are sharing $17,000 in CASP funding for small locally initiated arts activities.
