Micro Grant stories: Cowra Vocal Ensemble

Cowra Vocal Ensemble used an Arts OutWest Micro Grant to take their weekly choir practices online, continuing to sing together even when they can’t be together.

Cowra Vocal Ensemble have been meeting weekly as a virtual choir during Covid-19.  The Micro grant has helped to pay for their Zoom account, sheet music and backing tracks for the online sessions.

Cowra Vocal Ensemble is an activity of the Cowra Amateur Musical & Dramatic Society Incorporated and has a keen and active membership. They received a total of $955.72, most of which they have already used.

What did you do with the funds from your Arts OutWest Micro Grant?

Funds paid for access to the Zoom platform allowing the Choir to hold our weekly rehearsals on line. 22 members regularly participated. Music scores, learning tracks and backing tracks more suited to this form of delivery were purchased. Unspent monies at this date are for continued payment of the Zoom account and further music purchases.

What were the benefits gained from your Arts OutWest Micro Grant and how did it help you or others during the Covid-19 crisis?

The primary benefit of the grant was to maintain our cohesion as a choir by being able to continue to rehearse. Although there were definite challenges in this manner of rehearsing, members rose to the challenge with regular attendance. An added benefit was the musical and social interaction enabled by having access to Zoom.
