Enemy Aliens: The Dunera boys in Orange, 1941

Orange Regional Museum 151 Byng Street, Orange, NSW

Exhibition: 19 November 2022 – 23 April 2023
This exhibition tells the little-known story of the time the Dunera boys spent at the Orange Showground in 1941 and features artworks created during their internment. Many are drawn from the archives of relatives and private lenders, as well as never-before-seen works from a recently acquired collections held by the State Library of NSW. This project was developed and curated by Dr Seumas Spark, Adjunct Fellow in History at Monash University, Emeritus Professor Andrew Mcnamara from the Queensland University of Technology and translator Kate Garrett, in conjunction with Orange Regional Museum.

Marang Connections Calendar of Free Events

Marang Connections is a free 12-month program aiming to increase resilience, wellbeing and social connections for disadvantaged and disengaged young people aged 8-16 years. Young people will be offered one workshop/session per month facilitated by professional and reputable organisations to promote marang (well/good - Wiradjuri) lifestyles and connections.

One of the few sculptors who casts his own work, Laurence Edwards is fascinated by human anatomy and the metamorphosis of form and matter that governs the lost-wax process. His sculptures express the raw liquid power of bronze, its versatility, mass and evolution, and the variety of process marks he retains tell the story of how and why each work came to be.

A Lot of Little Nothings is an exhibition of mixed media works by Cowra-based artist Shani Nottingham, that explores the issues of waste,mass consumption and our impact on the environment. Nottingham fashions large sculptures that echo and mimic forms of nature, produced from found, donated and collected single-use bread tags to create an ultra-dimensional world. A Lot of Little Nothings is an installation that aims to highlight the hyper-abundance of single-use plastic, its impact on our environment and our relationship with plastic on both a small and large scale.

Exhibition Opening – Sandon Gibbs-O’Neill: Burruguu

Nhunggabarra artist Sandon Gibbs-O’Neill presents a series of new paintings developed in dialogue with the traditional stories and paintings of his grandfather Tex Skuthorpe, a significant Nhunggaburra artist from Nhunggal country in north western NSW. The title ‘Burruguu’ means time of creation in Nhunggal language.

Sophie Lampert: Anon

Sophie Lampert presents large-scale soft sculptures that celebrate the lives and atypical vocations of brilliant women throughout history. Using delicate beading, sequins and velvet she reimagines the unusual stories and successes into otherworldly sculptures—figures representing past lives that should be revisited and admired.

The Agency of Ruins

WAYOUT ArtSpace, Kandos 71 Angus St, Kandos, NSW

The Agency of Ruins, a collaboration by Sydney based artists Chrystal Rimmer, Belle Blau and Tamsin Salehian, will be opening at WAYOUT Artspace in Kandos. This exhibition is based on three provocations: speculative narratives of material and social entropy; the generative forces of such decay; and how these ruins can be measured within perspectives of the geos and bios.
