Sydney Symphony’s Brightest Young Stars Visit

ssy

The Orange Regional Conservatorium and Cowra Civic Centre will welcome the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellows to town for performances and master classes in the last week of February.

Their performance will feature some of Australia’s most talented young musicians.

The Fellows are a group who perform alongside and are mentored by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. These young musicians have been identified as some of the best up and coming performers in the country, this program provides them with a springboard into the professional world.

The group of 10 emerging professionals will be performing music by Johann Stamitz and Anton Reicha (contemporaries of Mozart and Beethoven) and the sunny masterpiece that is Dvorak’s ‘American’ String Quintet.

The Fellowship program is like an apprenticeship with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra selecting the very top young musicians from around Australia. They perform side-by-side with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in mainstage programs as well as concerts for schools and families.

The Fellows are under the leadership of Roger Benedict, Principal Viola player for Sydney Symphony Orchestra whose experience in the world of classical music has seen him perform all
over the world and mentor young emerging musicians including the Australian Youth Orchestra, The European Union Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain.

In Orange

While in Orange the fellowship group will also work with local students in a series masterclasses and workshops that morning.

As part of the ORC’s commitment to accessible music experiences for regional students, the Fellows will spend Sunday morning working with advancing young musicians from the Conservatorium and local schools in workshops and lessons. This will provide a unique opportunity for Orange’s music students to gain insights into the world of professional playing and the wonder of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

This is one of the many performances and education opportunities the ORC is offering in its 2021 Program. The full program is now available at www.orangecon.org.au

In Cowra

“We are delighted to welcome the Fellows back,” said Jonathan Llewellyn, Manager of Cowra Civic Centre. “We understand that their performance in Cowra last year was one of the only
