VISION 20/50
an (im)possible festival

It’s the year 2050 and it’s the launch of the Central West’s region-wide new Festival of Arts and Culture – VISION 20/50.

But what does the future look like for the Central West Region? Who are the artists in this festival and what is the work that they are making? How has the world and the region changed and what role does art play in engineering our future?

As part of marking 50 years of Arts Outwest, we are celebrating with a hypothetical Festival – CENTRAL WEST – VISION 20/50. We are calling on artists from across the region to imagine an artwork that could be made in the year 2050 in the Central West that speaks to a radically aspirational vision for a possible future for our region.

Expressions of interest

Expressions of interest are now open for artists with a hypothetical work of art for this year-long project.

Up to 8 artists and their projects will be selected, and will take part in a weekend residency with a leading Australian futurist, as well as VISION 20/50 Creative Producer and Director Adam Deusien and the Arts Outwest team, to develop the concept of a hypothetical artwork, and the future it could exist in. Following this we will work with selected artists to create material for a Festival website, leading up to a public event: A ‘Festival Program Launch’ that celebrates the collective imagination of artists and their radical visions for our future.

EOIs open Friday 8 March and close Thursday 11 April 2024.

Workshop Series – Developing your Idea

To aid artists in imagining aspirational ideas for the art-making of the future and prepare a submission, we are holding six free workshops around the region. In these workshops, you’ll be taken through a number of exercises and tasks that will help you imagine all the possibilities for your work, even though it doesn’t exist yet!

March and April 2024.  Workshop regos open Friday 8 March 2024
