Artist residency Oberon MPS

Working with residents and the activities officer at Oberon MPS, artist-facilitator Cate McCarthy used a layered approach including storytelling around photos, making new collaged and small puppet artworks from these images and stories, and bringing these together for collaborative storytelling.

Oberon MPS residents have been involved in Virtual Art Snacks since the pilot program in 2018, participating initially as in-person art sessions, moving into online delivery 2021-2023 and now this in-person artist residency block.

Through the making and storytelling Cate and the residents created a collaborative story about Tiddles the cat who took himself off for chips at the RSL, wearing his white underwear!

“It has been a joy for me to be with the people at Oberon. They are so lovely and willing to give anything a go.” Cate McCarthy.

This project is supported by the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund. In partnership with Western NSW Local Health District.
