JOY Kids artworks for trundle MPS
Workshops and exhibition

Trundle based visual artist Helen Capel ran workshops with the students at Trundle Central School and St Patricks School Trundle, creating artworks on the theme of ‘joy’.

The students discussed the kinds of images and works that people visiting, working in or staying in the Trundle MPS (Multi Purpose Health Service) would enjoy.

Selected works by the students were framed and hung in the Trundle MPS and join the hospital’s permanent collection or works.

An exhibition of the students’ works will ne held in a shopfront in Trundle in April 2021.

A selection of the artist statements:

Kaleb Stephenson – St Patrick’s – Kinder
I thought my picture was good and that people in the hospital would like it. I like the colours and my bits of card on it, and that there are two little birds, and one big one.

Charlie Taunton – St Patrick’s – Year 5
My artwork brings joy to me because it makes me think of how much farmers do for the world. Farmers feed the world! Without farmers there would be no food. Barley, which is the type of crop on my artwork, can be turned into beer. If you want a beer then you have to think about where it came from as well. This is why my artwork brings joy to me because farmers feed the world.

Alexis Gaut -Kinder
I think this will make people feel better because they will be missing their family. I think this looks cute and beautiful and looking like theyre getting ready for Christmas.

Catherine Crowley – St Patrick’s – Year 1
I like the bright colours and the sunset and I think that would make people happy. If someone was in hospital, and only one parent could be there, and they had to Facetime with the rest of the family at home, this picture would make them not feel lonely because there is a family there with them in the room.

MAGGIE ANDERSON
Year 8 – Trundle Central School
Explosions of Joy!
This artwork aims to inspire happiness through colour, hearts and quotes of joy that are hidden in the text. It is surrounded by a border of white because sometimes, you have to look for happiness before you can find it!

HANNAH LYNN
Year 8 – Trundle Central School
Be the light in the dark
My Great grandpa was a loving, caring man who loved the beach and I want to keep his memory.

ZACHARY CLAYTON
Year 8 – Trundle Central School
Ice cream Sundae
There is nothing like a bit of sweetness to bring us some joy.

AIDAN KIRK
Year 10 – Trundle Central School
Elvis
Elvis Presley reminds me of a lot about the ‘good times’, back when the popular songs and bands were making music and songs that people still listen to today.

GRACE HARTIG
Year 9 – Trundle Central School
Inner Joy
My artwork represents the joy in letting go and feeling peace. The warm colours represent the energy being released from her body.

If someone was in hospital, and only one parent could be there, and they had to Facetime with the rest of the family at home, this picture would make them not feel lonely because there is a family there with them in the room- Catherine, year one, St Patricks Trundle.
