sissy

Orange-based film company Arcadia opens the prestigious SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas with Horror Comedy Sissy.

The Orange-based film and TV production and distribution studio, Arcadia celebrates the World Premiere of their horror comedy Sissy, which played opening night in the Midnighters Section of SXSW to a sell-out crowd and critical acclaim.

Arcadia, the team behind Kodi Smit-McPhee sci-fi 2067 (Netflix), continues their success with the World Premiere last Friday of their new horror comedy Sissy in selection at the illustrious SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas.

Produced by Arcadia’s Lisa Shaunessy and Bec Janek, and Executive Produced by Alexandra Burke and Seth Larney, Sissy is led by The Bold Type star Aisha Dee who stars as Cecilia, (aka Sissy), a successful social media influencer living the dream, until she runs into her ex-teenage best friend. Invited away on a bachelorette weekend, Sissy is stuck in a remote cabin with her high school bully…#triggered.

Also starring Yerin Ha (Halo), Lucy Barrett (Charmed), Daniel Monks (Pulse), Emily De Margheriti (Ladies in Black) and Hannah Barlow (For Now) who also co-wrote the script and co-directed with Kane Senes (For Now).

Sissy producers Lisa Shaunessy and Bec Janek said, “We’re honoured to have premiered in the Midnighters Section on the opening night of the festival. SXSW has a wonderful track record of world premieres, including some of our favourite films of the past few years: A Quiet Place, Booksmart and Spring Breakers. To have Sissy, a film we shot in Canberra, recognised in this company is fantastic and it was amazing to unleash this film on audiences at SXSW. To have the film so well-received by critics and audiences alike (Sissy is currently 100% on Rotten Tomatoes) is a dream come true”.

Also producing alongside Arcadia is John De Margheriti of DEMS Entertainment, The Academy of Interactive Entertainment and Jason Taylor for Freedom Films.

Filmed in Canberra, Sissy has received production funding from Screen Canberra, Screen Australia, the Academy of Interactive Entertainment, ACT Film One Investors, Freedom Films, Mind the Gap and Arcadia.

Arcadia is set to release Sissy in Australian cinemas Halloween 2022.
