MusicNSW leads regional music development with seven Regional Music Officers. Patrick Coomey, who also works as Arts OutWest’s Music Industry Development Officer, will be the Central West RMO.
Patrick Coomey will continue working for Arts OutWest one day per week and work for Music NSW three days per week, continuing and expanding upon the excellent work he is doing in developing regional music touring, opportunities and support.
I am very honoured to be the MusicNSW Regional Music Officer for the Central West and a member of this talented team (that’s me in the top left hand corner of the picture for those who haven’t met me yet).
Since 2016 I have been raising awareness about music, arts and culture of the Central West via my initiative 100 Mile Groove . This has not only involved providing content via Social Media , but also via newspapers and magazines, radio and television. Since late last year I have also been working as the Music Industry Support Officer for Arts Outwest
During this time I have established networks across the region connecting musicians, venues, councils and industry professionals to build and grow our industry.
I am looking forward to working with musicians and members of the local industry to expand and build on this work and look forward to being a conduit for funding, development and performance opportunities as part of MusicNSW Regional Music Officer Program.
Planning is underway for Industry Networking sessions so stay tuned.
It is very encouraging to have the investment and support of Create NSW to build the capacity of our local music industry which contributes significantly to the local economy and the health and wellbeing of our communities here in the Central West and right across NSW.
Please invite your fellow musicians and anyone working in the local music industry to join our group.
Music NSW Announcement:
MusicNSW has announced one of the most significant regional music development efforts ever undertaken in NSW, with the appointment of seven Regional Music Officers (RMOs) across the state.
These local music champions are brokers within their regions on behalf of MusicNSW. Already embedded in their communities, they will focus on building capacity and relationships between local industry, artists and councils.
After a successful pilot that began in the state’s south in 2019, the program now extends up through the Central West, Mid North Coast, North West and Northern Rivers regions, significantly expanding the organisation’s reach across the state.
By employing people already living and working in the regions, MusicNSW is uniquely positioned to identify areas of local industry that need attention, and leverage local knowledge to develop and deliver relevant support.
This latest expansion would not be possible without the investment and support of Create NSW, and it serves as an acknowledgement of both the critical importance of music to regional communities and economies, and of regional music to the broader music ecosystem.
MusicNSW’s Managing Director Emily Collins states:
“Regional NSW is brimming with world-class talent and opportunities for industry growth. We’re thrilled to be able to employ local experts to help drive the development of their regional communities, and highlight the exceptional work already being done. It’s an exciting time for music in NSW”
