‘Miro’ nominated for ACCTA
The short film ‘Miro’, filmed in Condobolin and Fifield and supported by the Arts OutWest Cultural Fund, has been nominated for the 7th AACTA Awards.
It has been nominated in the category Best Short Fiction Film and Best Short Animation.
Using our Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status and the special Arts OutWest Cultural Fund, we took in and managed funding donations towards the professional film production of ‘Miro’.
Led by Victoria Wharfe McIntyre (Director), Fran Dobbie (Writer) and Amadeo Marquez-Perez for Earthstar Productions, ‘Miro’ was filmed in 2016 in and around Condobolin and involved many members of the local community as both extras and supporting crew.
‘Miro’ tells the story of a WWII Aboriginal Western, and stars AACTA Award-nominated actor Mark Coles Smith (LAST CAB TO DARWIN, PAWNO) and Aaron McGrath (JASPER JONES, GLITCH, THE CODE).
The film’s nomination follows sell out screenings at GI Film Festival in Washington DC. ‘Miro’ has also been officially selected in the 66th Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF), August 2-20. Producer Victoria has been selected in the Accelerator Lab for short film makers.
Further AACTA Award nominees will be announced later this year, with winners across all categories to be announced at AACTA’s two major events, the Industry Luncheon and the Ceremony and Official After Party, in Sydney this December.
“We are excited to see Australian short films getting such recognition at film festivals both here and internationally, further cementing Australia’s international reputation for excellence in our industry,” said AFI | AACTA CEO Damian Trewhella. “On behalf of AACTA, I congratulate all our short film nominees and wish them the very best for the 7th AACTA Awards presented by Foxtel.”
