O’Connell musician Kris Schubert used a 2021 Arts Restart Micro Grant to run the first of a series of delightful outdoor music performances in the village on the first weekend of May.
The $2000 communuty Micro Grant funding was used for the staging a series of outdoor music performances at the Avenue Cafe in O’Connell. The money was be used to provide PA equipment, and to pay musicians.
How did you make use of your Micro Grant?
We held an outdoor live music event at the O’Connell Avenue Cafe, featuring 7 acts ranging from local high school
age kids up to larger groups of more established musicians. A total of 20 musicians performed. The money was
used to pay everyone that performed, and cover staging costs.
What were the benefits gained from your Arts OutWest Micro Grant and how did it help you
or others during the Covid-19 crisis?
Kris listed four benfits from the funded activity:
1. Provide a paying gig for local musicians who have lost work due to COVID
2. Provide a live music event for the community which was unable to hold their usual end of year event in 2020
3. Support and promote a local business
4. Show the potential for future live music at the cafe
This Micro Grant was proudly supported by the NSW Government’s Arts Restart and by Arts OutWest.
