Lachlan Valley Biennial Art Awards at the Cowra Regional Art Gallery

Exhibition to June 12. Now on at the Cowra Regional Gallery is the wonderful regional art exhibition the Lachlan Valley Biennial Art Awards 2021 showcasing 100 artworks by 61 artists based within a radius of 100 klms from Cowra.
The artists includes artists from Darby’s Falls, Millthorpe, Grenfell, Woodstock, Canowindra, Greenethorpe, Bathurst, Young, Koorawatha, Orange, Gooloogong, Newbridge, and Cowra.

The Lachlan Valley Biennial Art Awards (LVBAA) was established as a stand alone exhibition project by the Cowra Art Group following over 20 years presenting exhibitions in association with the annual Festival of the Lachlan Valley (1986-1992) and the Cowra Festival of International Understanding.

The opening event including the announcemmnet of the winners was broadcast online by the Cowra Regional Art Gallery on Wednesday 19 May 5.30pm (this was due to COVID – 19
restrictions) and can now be seen on the Gallery website. Cr Bill West, Cowra Mayor launched the exhibition. He congratulated the Art Group and the participating artists as well as acknowledging the artistic talent in Cowra and the region.

“Walking in here it is quite inspiring and amazing to look at the work, not only of the art and the talent we have in the region, but to have it showcased in such a way, the diversity and the quality is outstanding. I would hope that when people come and look at this exhibition they would understand and appreciate the talent and the quality of the artists we have in our region.” said Cowra Mayor Bill West.

The 2021 judge was Emma Collerton, Curator. Bathurst Regional Art Gallery. The judge selected two co-winners of the $4,000 Major prize and four highly commended. “As you can see when you walk around the exhibition space there is so much diversity with the styles, the techniques, and the subject matter…. I had a very hard job, so I went to the committee
and I said can I please choose two? And they said OK” said Emma Collerton.

This is a “must-see” exhibition and unique opportunity to enjoy the works of local talent from across the region.

The Lachlan Valley Biennial Art Awards continues at the Cowra Regional Art Gallery to 12 June 2021. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm and Sunday 2pm to 4pm and admission is free. The Cowra Regional Art Gallery is located at 77 Darling Street Cowra 2794.
