A new festival, 18-19 November. HILL END ANALOGUE (HEA) is an analogue photographic art festival presented by Hill End Arts Council Inc.
Media release 30 October 2023
(HEAC) in the Central West NSW township of Hill End with sponsorship by Bathurst Regional Council, Bathurst Regional Art Gallery, FRRR, NSW National Parks and Wildlife and Artist Profile.
Comprising photographic exhibitions, demonstrations, workshops, music and performances the festival will promote community awareness, appreciation and engagement in analogue photography. It will serve as an important springboard for discussion about the past, present and future of analogue photographic arts.
Hill End, NSW, is an historic township with an extensive analogue photographic history that includes the establishment of the American and Australasian Photographic Company in Tambaroora Street in 1872.
The significant photographic documentation of Hill End and surrounds during the gold boom of the 1870’s by Beaufoy Merlin and Charles Bayliss forms the “Holtermann Collection” held in the NSW State Library.
This heritage is augmented by the creation of contemporary photographic art by subsequent generations of Hill End artists, visitors, and participants in the Bathurst Regional Gallery Hill End Artists in Residence Programme.
