Gulgong Arts Prize

gulgong

Closes midnight, 29 May 2023. Gulgong Arts Council is thrilled to announce the return of our annual art competition on the June long weekend of 2023.

We encourage artists to reflect on the theme “unearthed”. What have you found, dug up, uncovered, revealed in these recent trying years? What has been brought to light, or made public? What feelings have been brought to the surface? This theme lends itself to historical, political and personal interpretation and much more.

This year we are accepting entries in any media you choose including (but not limited to) watercolour, oil, pastel, acrylic, textiles, drawing, sculpture, pottery and photography.

Guest judge is Wendy Sharpe.

Wendy Sharpe is one of Australia’s most acclaimed and awarded artists, who lives between Sydney and Paris. She has won an extensive list of prizes, residencies and scholarships; such examples include:  the Archibald Prize, the Sulman Prize, the Portia Geach Memorial Award, the Calleen Art Prize, the Adelaide Perry Art Prize and the Gold Award. She has also had residencies with the Australian Ballet, Opera Australia and Circus Oz. Sharpe was also the first woman since WWII commissioned by the Australian War Memorial as an Official War Artist, where she was posted to East Timor.  Sharpe has held over 70 solo exhibitions around Australia and internationally.
