After wowing audiences world-wide, Orange-based film studio Arcadia is bringing their hit feature film Sissy home for its Orange Gala Premiere featuring a Q&A with the local filmmakers, 4th November at Odeon 5 Cinemas.
After it’s World Premiere, playing opening night at the prestigious SXSW Film Festival in the US, followed by selections in Edinburgh International Film Festival, Sitges in Spain and Fantasia in Montreal, the team behind new Australian hit horror comedy Sissy is finally bringing the film home to Orange for a special Gala screening at Odeon 5 on November 4, featuring a special Q&A with the filmmakers. Sissy stars The Bold Type’s Aisha Dee in a breakout role, likened to that of Florence Pugh in Midsommar and Toni Collette in Hereditary. Dee stars as Cecilia (Sissy) a wellness influencer who encounters her childhood tormentor on a hen’s weekend. Revenge is a dish best shared on Instagram.
Since it’s SXSW premiere, Sissy has gone on to win several Audience Awards at major film festivals around the globe, including South Korea’s most prestigious genre festival BiFAN, Overlook Film Festival in New Orleans and just this week, Sissy won the Midnight X-Treme Audience award at Sitges Film Festival in Spain, the biggest genre festival in the world.
Back in Australia Sissy played opening night at Sydney Film Festival, before opening Revelation Film Festival in Perth, Capital Film Festival in Canberra before a hit run at Melbourne International Film Festival in August.
Sissy will release in cinemas across Australia November 3 and to celebrate the Arcadia team is coming home to present the film on Friday November 4, during its general release at Odeon 5. Considered by many a “Muriel’s Wedding with a Tarantino ending” Sissy has become a hit amongst critics and public audience. Sissy maintains a stunning 97% on Rotten Tomatoes since its world premiere in March.
Orange-based producers Lisa Shaunessy and Bec Janek, VFX supervisor Seth Larney and Executive Producer Alexandra Burke, will be in attendance on Friday to present the film. Lisa Shaunessy’s own credits include 2067, starring Oscar nominee Kodi Smit McPhee, now streaming on Netflix, Sundance hit Killing Ground, starring Aaron Pederson and Harriet Dyer and the upcoming TV series While the Men Are Away, set to be shot around Orange in February 2023. Bec Janek’s credits include 2067. Seth Larney is the writer and director of 2067 and Malaysian action blockbuster Tombiruo which set a new box office record in its home country.
