Visit Cooerwull House, Bowenfels

Sun 21 April at 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

There are only a handful of early colonial buildings that are still owned by the original builder’s family. Located just two hours from Sydney, Cooerwull House, together with its suite of outbuildings, is one of those. Here is a chance to explore the house and farm buildings, to marvel at this centrepiece of a sophisticated grazing empire that spread over hundreds of thousands of acres by the mid 1800s. It is still in much the same state as when its builder, Andrew Brown, died in 1894; right down to the original shingles still on the roof and remnants of the electricity system installed in the house ten years before Sydney was electrified. Guests can roam freely through the property with knowledgeable local guides to provide an insight into key features. Admission includes a commemorative booklet that incorporates an incisive article by noted Andrew Brown scholar, the late Associate Professor Ian Jack.
