The Life & Times of Jessie Hickman
Sat 29 October at 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Julie Williams and Sally McInerney explore the Life and Times of Jessie Hickman, The Lady Bushranger.
The Jessie Hickman (1890-1936) adopted many roles over her short life, from a travelling circus performer, horsewoman and in later life a roaming near Kandos and Rylstone to become known as “The Lady Bushranger”.
Noted photographer and artist, Julie Williams’ recent photo series “Smother” reinterprets the life and times of Jessie, bringing a fresh perspective to The Lady Bushranger story.
Julie explores the Jessie’s story, from both the historical and contemporary perspectives, in conversation with writer-photographer, Sally McInerney, with her own family’s connections to Jessie’s past through Jessie’s paramour, some would say downfall, Martini Breheney.
Supported by Wirrinya’s, the Bushranger Poet, most recent poem set to music by Maree Maiden.
Afternoon tea and scones available.
