School Holiday Winter Workshops
Sun 2 July - Fri 7 July

Try The Harp! 10am – 11am | Come along and try out the harp! *Solveig Hu*, harp teacher and graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, will take students through a whirlwind workshop exploring the basics of learning the harp! This is a unique hands-on opportunity for students to experience with the rare instrument – limited spaces are available so don’t miss out!Students 8+ years of age
The Performance Mindset 11am – 12pm | Dynamic duo *Jeffrey Cheah* (guitar) and *Solveig Hu* (harp) present a workshop dedicated to the performance mindset. With combined experience spanning international classical competitions to performing with rappers, the duo know a thing or two about what it takes to perform music on stage! From dealing with nerves and mistakes to enjoying the experience, this workshop is suitable to anyone interested in learning about the art of performance. Plus, you’ll hear the rare combination of harp and guitar performing together! Open to all students and observers
Noëmi Nadelmann Performance Masterclass 2pm – 4pm | Noëmi Nadelmann, Swiss soprano, has sung at the Metropolitan Opera – New York, Opéra National Paris, Vienna State Opera, Komische Oper – Berlin, Dutch National Opera and The Lyric Opera in Chicago. She currently teaches voice in Sydney and is coming to Orange to run a vocal masterclass for all musical theatre and classical singers. Observers are welcome too. Piano accompaniment will be provided, just bring along the music with you.
Pathways to Screen Composition | Online 10am – 11am | Students interested in composition career pathways and general public interested in the screen sector/music. Have you ever been curious about what it might be like to work as a composer in the film industry? Dale Cornelius, President of the Australian Guild of Screen Composers and Chair of the Education Committee, presents a talk and Q&A session about pathways to screen composition. If you’re a student interested in music career pathways or someone who’s always wondered about working for the screen, this talk is for you!The Australian Guild of Screen Composers is a community of professional screen composers dedicated to supporting both emerging and established Australian screen composers in film, television, gaming or related industries.
Introduction to Composition! 11am – 12:30pm | Join Tess Atutahi, 4th year composition student from the Sydney Conservatorium, and Stephanie Li, cello teacher at the Orange Regional Conservatorium, for an interactive workshop exploring the elements of composition. Learn how composition elements work together, bring along your instrument/voice, and come away with a song you’ve written! Manuscript paper will be provided. Suitable for all ages (must have been learning your instrument for 2+ years).
Introduction to Improvisation 1pm – 2:30pm |Introduction to improvisation ideas and techniques, using of chord charts as basis, with ORC Piano Tutor Kate Rose. All instruments instrument, AMEB grade 3- 6 (or equivalent)
Evgeny Ukanov Piano Workshop3pm – 5pm | Ukrainian-Australian pianist, Evgeny Ukhanov presents a performance and workshop for advancing piano students. Bring along a piece of music you have been working on to play for Evgeny, who will then work with you on tips and techniques!
Junior Music Morning9am – 12pm | Kids aged 5 – 8 years will try four different instruments in a ‘round-robin’ style introduction to the ORC’s junior music programs. Visit orangecon.org.au for further details.
Music Career Pathways with Prof. Roger Benedict, Online 10am – 11am | Chief Conductor of the Sydney Conservatorium Orchestra and Violist Roger Benedict presents a ZOOM session of pathways into a career in music for high-school students.
