Choirs unite to lift spirits in performance at St Joseph’s Church, Orange

Primavera is a collaboration of over one hundred singers from three choirs who will perform modern and traditional songs in the acoustically gifted ‘surround sound’ of St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Orange, on Saturday 24 September 2022.

Local women’s choir Cantar and Caesura, the Orange Regional Conservatorium choir, will welcome Katandra Women’s A Cappella choir from the South Coast NSW for a celebration of singing. Each choir will present a set of songs before combining in a magical finale with all singers performing together.

“Choirs literally lost their voice and the ability to share the joy of music and friendship due to the Covid 19 pandemic restrictions,” said Katandra musical director Antoinette Raynal.

“Bringing the sound of so many singers together in the magnificent St Joseph’s Catholic Church with its extraordinary resonance will bring joy and inspiration. It will literally lift the roof, “ she said.

“I knew it was the perfect venue when I sang a single note and heard this amazing resonance. I could easily imagine the impact this would have on the aesthetic of a performance.

“It’s a truly surround sound experience,” Ms Raynal said.

Katandra Women’s A Cappella recently performed a similar collaborative choir event at Kiama on the South Coast.

“We also have a special guest appearance from the Canobolas Pipe Band who will pipe the singers out of the church at the conclusion. If you’ve ever heard Scottish bagpipes in amazing acoustics this will certainly lift your hearts.”

All proceeds of Primavera will be donated to The Orchard, a crisis accomodation facility in Orange for women and children escaping domestic violence.
