Orange Chamber Music Festival: The Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra
Sun 12 March at 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

In the late 1700s, Vienna was seized by enthusiasm for the clarinet. Mozart fell in love with the sound of this fashionable new instrument, considering it the closest to the human voice, and his Clarinet Quintet, with its perfect proportions and melodic invention, remains one of his best-loved pieces to this day.
It inspired his former student and protégé Johann Nepomuk Hummel to write his own Clarinet Quartet, a beautifully balanced work of chamber music, and an important bridge between the Classical and Romantic eras.
We also hear the two movements of Schubert’s String Trio D.471, a lyrical gem.
Johann Nepomuk Hummel
Clarinet Quartet in E flat major, S.78 (1808)
Franz Schubert
String Trio in B flat major, D.471 (1816)
-Interval-
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Clarinet Quintet in A major, K.581 (1789)
Please note: this performance is approximately 90 minutes long, with a short interval of 15 minutes.
