Muster – ‘The Lure of the Bald Hills’

Thu 18 April at 7:30 pm

Gold Coin

A talk based on a poem “Views from the Bald Hills” published in the Bathurst Times in November 1912. It captures the fascination for Bathurst’s dominant south-west backdrop once known as the Bald Hills and now known as Mt Panorama/Wahluu.

This ancient landscape, so significant to the local Wiradyuri people, has long drawn people for ceremonies, the rich volcanic soils, the rocks and minerals and the expansive views from the summit, the lure of which eventually led to the construction of a scenic road and later the world-famous racing circuit.  The Lure of the Bald Hills traces the story from the ancient river to the opening of McPhillamy Park and the racing circuit in March 1938.

A light supper will be served at the conclusion off the presentation. Entry by gold coin donation.
