Music on Mount David

Fri 3 June at 3:00 pm

Alexandra is recovering very well from her long awaited new knee, however it is still at the “running-in stage”. To prevent her overdoing things the location for this concert has been moved to “Kipling” on Abercrombie Road Black Springs, the beautiful home of Brian and Kathy Beesley, whom many of you already know. Perhaps we should re-name this concert “Quartets at Kipling”, or “Prelude to Winter”. The relocation suits the ensemble perfectly, being a fine string quartet, which of course doesn’t need our piano. So it’s not at Mount David at all! 2:30 for 3:00 on Friday 3rd June at “Kipling”, 2784 Abercrombie Road, Black Springs.
The quartet:
Rebecca Yu Qing Irwin, Violin 1, Rebecca has just retired from the Opera Australia Orchestra after many years but like Margie Iddison will be returning to it as a freelancer. Margie and Rebecca have played for many years together in various chamber ensembles.

Michelle O’Young, Violin 2, is a freelance violinist who at present is leading the orchestra for Phantom of the Opera on Sydney harbour. She’s a wonderful musician and in high demand for many genres.

David Wicks, Viola, has worked for many years in the renowned Australian Chamber Orchestra. He often leads the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra’s viola section and works regularly with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Opera Australia.

Margie Iddison, Cello. Many of you will remember as the amazing cellist who performed here in piano trios with David Saffir and David Sellig, and another time with Tommaso Girotto, guitar, and James Fortune, Flute.

The program includes Beethoven opus 18 number 4, Sculthorpe opus 8 and a surprise.

Bookings are essential to and payment of $50 in cash at the door includes a welcoming glass and very generous afternoon tea. Phone 6337 9679. BOOKING DEADLINE 21/5

Covid. Currently there are no community health orders affecting the concert, however anyone with symptoms or a positive test may cancel their booking without penalty and with our best wishes for a speedy recovery. Alexandra will scan patrons with a non-contact
