Mara! Big Band
Sat 24 September at 8:00 pm

Mara Music is excited to announce a new development for Australia’s leading World/Jazz ensemble Mara!
For over three decades the Mara! Quintet has been developing a new genre of contemporary Australian music, exploring the intersection between jazz and world music. This has earned them two ARIA awards and two final ARIA
nominations and taken them across the globe many times with tours to 23 countries.
Now they’ve expanded into the Mara! Big Band, a 12-piece ensemble that straddles the Eastern European Gypsy Brass Band, Balkan Wedding Band and Jazz Big Band traditions, to augment their signature sound with a kaleidoscope of musical colours including brass, piano accordion, percussion and voice. Their music covers the sonic worlds of Anglo/Celtic, Balkan and Middle Eastern. Expect some massive textures, wild improvisations and riveting vocals.
The Mara! Big Band features some of the greatest names in Australian jazz and world music.
