Live & Kicking: Josie Laver / Riley & Ah-See/Jaffer/ Robbie Mortimer ‘Schools out for summer’ Party

Fri 16 December at 4:30 pm - 9:00 pm

The last couple of years have been a challenge for many professions and teaching has been one of them. Schools Out offers Teachers and their family & friends an opportunity to let their hair down and celebrate the end of year. Schools out will feature the music of four local acts to take you through the afternoon and dance into the evening.

Opening the afternoon and helping you to unwind from the classroom to the playground of the old March School will be local country songstress Josie Laver. During the day she works on her family farm near Boorowa by night she hones her song writing craft, her tunes of love and heartbreak ooze authenticity. Embracing her country roots, inspired by Kasey Chambers, Gillian Welch & Bonnie Raitt, she not only loves country music, she lives it.

Winding things up will be Riley & Ah-See a dynamic Hip Hop duo from Dubbo. Anthony Riley & Brian Ah-See were both born into musical families and have been performing in bands for most of their lives. These two fell in love with Hip Hop as boys in baggy set pants and high tops. Now they use their love of Hip Hop to connect with audiences via catchy tunes with messages of positivity and hope and help revitalise their mother tongue, Wiradjuri.

Jaffer a duo from Orange consisting of the Funk Soul brothers Luke & Zac Ferguson are going to keep things grooving. Luke’s giant hands create a funky fluidity on the bass that can get anyone into a groove whilst Zac’s syncopation keeps it all chugging along. This combined with Luke’s vocals which can go from a whisper to a roar it’s like you’re taking a journey on a soul train.  Luke has been an in demand Bass session player especially with producer Anthony Lycenko playing on recordings for artists Pete Murray and Busby Marou. He has also toured nationally with his band and appeared at major festivals including Blues Fest, Woodford folk festival, Splendour in the Grass

A big finish for the night & year will be brought to the stage by Robbie Mortimer & his band.  Robbie has performed a few shows around the Central West as part of the Live & Kicking program. One was the start of his East Coast Tour in February. A trip to Nashville and then returning for more shows up and down the Coast as well as appearances at Festivals around NSW sharing the stage with Eskimo Joe & Jon Stevens. A big show at The Orange Civic Centre was one of his personal highlights. Come and celebrate a standout year for this hometown hero on the grounds where the dreams he dreamed have become reality.

Arts OutWest is pleased  to present in conjunction with Mortimers Wines Schools Out show featuring the Original music of artists from The Central West. Live & Kicking gigs are supported by the Australian Governments Live Music Australia.

You won’t be able to live stream or download it, you’ve gotta be at Mortimers Winery to experience it.  This is an 18+ event.
