Rita the Comic Opera by Gaetano Donizetti

A Comic Opera in One Act by Gaetano Donizetti
Set in the late 50s, Rita runs a country Guest House with her second husband Beppe.
She has a tragic past. Her first husband was lost at sea in a shipwreck, then she narrowly escaped a bushfire that destroyed the entire district.
Traumatised, she is now finding a new balance, dominating her hen-pecked husband, determined never again to be bullied as she was in her first marriage.
This is turned upside down when her first husband, Gasparo, reappears. Each, believing the other dead, has formed a new life – now brought into crisis.
Who is the legitamate husband?
The two husbands each plot to get the other to take Rita off his hands.
And so the fun begins.
Rita, soprano, is Catherine Bouchier. Beppe, tenor, is Joshua Oxley. Gasparo, baritone, is Christopher Tomkin
The world premiere of a new performing version in English by director/librettist John Wregg. Music Direction by Sharolyn Kimmorley
