Linda Chant’s paintings and drawings are a playful mix of memories, experiences, figures, costume, flowers, ornamentation, and hinted landscape. She employs the possibilities of light, colour, and mark making to awaken an emotional response in the viewer. There is an interest in a fragile beauty, a suspended moment or memory.
Following a career in Visual Arts Education, the past 18 months has allowed Linda Chant the freedom to focus on her own art practice. To devote the time it takes to develop a much deeper understanding of the intriguing relationship between ideas and making, to refine techniques and to be adventurous. Most of the work in this exhibition has been produced in this time.
“These works validate the importance of process and what it reveals to the maker. Everything here will contribute to my current and future work. And in that sense, has led me here.
Linda Chant has taken part in group shows, enjoyed recognition in Central West competitions, exhibited at Bathurst Regional Gallery, participated in the 2021 ‘Ironbark Residency’ with Tim Winters (Orana Arts) and shown regularly with the ‘Rogues’ Sculpture Group based in Orange.
