Guided Tour of Wentworth Mine at Lucknow

Sun 5 November at 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Free

After taking a break during COVID, Wentworth Main Mine tours are back!!! Join Wentworth Mine Tour Guide Jason Nitz on Sunday 5 November 2023 from 10.30am – 12 noon for an informative tour of this unique heritage site located at Lucknow.

The Wentworth Goldfield was discovered just two months after Australia’s first payable gold at nearby Ophir in 1851. At its peak the in the 1880s and 1890s, the Wenworth Goldfield was one of the richest in NSW and the village of Lucknow was a thriving mining village amid a network of mine shafts and mullock heaps.

William Charles Wentworth invested in land at Lucknow in the 1830s, and during the guided tour you will learn about the mine workings and the current infrastructure built in the 1930s.

Entry to Wentworth Main Mine is free, but please book your place for this guided tour – and bring a copy of your ticket (on your phone or printed out on paper) so we can check you in. https://tinyurl.com/LucknowMineTourNov2023

Wentworth Mine Site requires a medium level of fitness, it is a 300 metre round trip with approximately 30 steps on a gravel surface. Please wear closed-in shoes, a hat, bring along a bottle of water and wear sunscreen. Primary School age children are encouraged to attend with their parents.

Parking is available at the picnic area next to the Wentworth Main Mine via Emu Swamp Road (turn off from the Mitchell Highway). Please enter the site via the picnic area, off Emu Swamp Road, and walk up the steps to meet your guide at the top of the site, to begin the tour.
