Eishan Ensemble Returns

Thu 7 November at 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

$45

From Womad, Auckland Arts Festival, Rome Jazz Festival to Sydney Opera House, Melbourne Recital Hall and a hit earlier this year at Bathurst Sea of Sound, Eishan Ensemble has performed at the most well-known venues and festivals around the world since it was formed in 2016 in Sydney Australia.

Led by acclaimed Persian-Australian tar virtuoso and composer, Hamed Sadeghi, the ARIA nominated Eishan Ensemble draws on contemporary and classical music traditions of both East and West. Eishan’s repertoire consists predominantly of Sadeghi’s original compositions with diverse improvisatory idioms featured powerfully. Variously described as “Persian chamber jazz” and “eastern jazz fusion”, Eishan defies neat labels.

★★★★ “The 11th-century Persian treatise Qabus-Nama (Mirror for Princes) recommends the plucked sound of the tar as a remedy for headache, insomnia, anxiety and other ailments. Sydney’s Eishan Ensemble, led by Tehran-born tar player Hamed Sadeghi, offers compelling evidence of the stringed instrument’s potency, even if used in music that’s far from traditional. Sadeghi’s fresh, contemporary pieces subtly integrate regional Iranian folkloric elements with jazz harmonic concepts, while avoiding predictable fusion.”
– Eugene Ulman, Sydney Morning Herald

Variously described as “Persian chamber jazz” and “eastern jazz fusion”, Eishan defies neat labels. BMEC is thrilled to be presenting Eishan Ensemble again this time with a full program after such a positive response from audiences during their 60-minute taster performance at Bathurst Sea of Sound in January 2024.
