ANNOUNCING THE BLACK TIE AND GUMBOOT TRUFFLE HUNT AND DINNER’S SPECIAL GUEST CHEFS FOR 2023:
INDIGENOUS CHEFS LUKE & SAM BOURKE (ROCKPOOL & BAKER BLEU), AND THE RETURN OF ROCKPOOL’S GROUP EXECUTIVE CHEF COREY COSTELLOE.
This year, Borrodell has partnered with the charity organisation the National Indigenous Culinary Institute (NICI), to showcase the upcoming talents of our indigenous superstars.
We are also thrilled to welcome back Rockpool’s Group Executive Chef, Corey Costelloe who will be teaming up with twins Luke and Sam to bring you a decadent 5-course truffle degustation matched with our Borrodell estate-grown wines.
Joining the program in 2013, Luke and Sam completed their apprenticeships at Rockpool Bar and Grill, learning under the guidance of Neil Perry and Corey Costelloe. After completing their apprenticeships, Luke and Sam continued to work for Rockpool and Neil Perry, with Sam making the move to Rosetta to progress his career as a Chef De Partie and then progressing to Sous Chef. Sam has continued to follow Neil Perry, joining him in 2021 in his new restaurant – Margaret and then taking over as Head Chef of Next Door. Sam has moved once more to develop his baking skills, currently working at Baker Blue, another of Neil Perry’s venues. Luke has remained at Rockpool and has been instrumental in the success of mentoring other Indigenous apprentices who have joined Rockpool through the NICI program. Luke is now a Sous Chef at Rockpool Bar and Grill, continuing to grow in his leadership and skills.
2023 will be the 17th year the event has been running and has become an iconic Orange food event. It has been featured on several TV shows including media personality Lyndey Milan OAM’s Taste of Australia, who has ranked the event in her top 3 Australia-wide food destinations. Apart from Corey Costelloe in 2022, previous celebrity guest chefs have included Giovanni Pilu (2021), Robert Molines OAM, Lyndey Milan OAM, and Justin North.
The Black Tie and Gumboot Truffle Hunt and Dinner allows you to roam the trufferie in search of truffles, guided by the truffler and the truffle dogs, followed by the warmth of mulled cider and a decadent feast prepared by some of the finest chefs in the country. The proceeds of the charity auction will also go to the charity of choice – National Indigenous Culinary Institute. Guests can bid on artworks as well as the prized truffles found during the hunt.
We will have local indigenous dancers performing for guests upon arrival just before the Welcome To Country by the Deputy Mayor Juru man Gerard Power.
This is a winter wonderland treat where you are expected to not only glam-up but rug up!
So, dust off the ball gowns, spruce up the top hats, add some sparkle to the gumboots – it’s Borrodell’s Black Tie and Gumboot Truffle Hunt and Dinner – Saturday 24th June 2023.
Borrodell and the NICI would be delighted if you could join us for the occasion.
