At the heart of ‘Intertwined’ is a story of three people from three entirely different backgrounds and worlds. Contemporary, historical and ancient cultures collide in this exploration of commonalities, differences and enduring lessons of life with the backdrop of The Second World War.
A young teen girl, an Australian soldier and an Aboriginal man all find themselves with one thing in common: Cowra.Cowra is the place the teen girl is taken to holiday with her father, partly to deal with the passing of her mother. Cowra is where our Australian soldier served during WWII. He represents the many Australian soldiers who came here during the days of the infamous Cowra POW Breakout and tells their stories. Our Aboriginal man tells the stories of his elders who were alive at Erambie Mission during the time of the Breakout.
Through twelve scenes and 8 musical numbers, the actors and the small chorus ensemble show how their lives overlap and asks if the example given to us in the Japan-Australia relationship can inspire future generations. The play asks if we can acknowledge past hurts to our Indigenous community in order to help us move forward in a way that promotes peace as a nation united.
The What’s On calendar covers arts and heritage events happening across the NSW Central West in the local government areas of Bathurst Region, Blayney, Cabonne, Cowra, Forbes, Lachlan, Lithgow, Mid-Western Region, Oberon, Orange, Parkes and Weddin.
