Artist-led Workshop: Concrete Casting with Anna Horne

Sat 16 July at 10:30 am - 1:30 pm

Artist Anna Horne will lead participants in making cast concrete sculptures from everyday items.
In this workshop, South Australian artist Anna Horne will guide participants in making sculptures cast in concrete and plaster using moulds made out of unexpected everyday materials. Using the force of gravity to their advantage, participants will make objects that explore the materiality of concrete and visual concepts of light and heavy, soft and hard, familiar and strange.
What to wear: Please wear enclosed shoes and comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit messy.
What to bring: All art materials are provided. The Gallery will provide self serve tea, coffee and biscuits.
Artwork collection: As concrete may take a while to set participants may have to collect their works at a later date. Participants are expected to collect their artworks within 7 days of the workshop. Any work that remains at the Gallery may be disposed of after this time.

Artist Bio
Anna Horne (b. 1986) is a South Australian artist exploring materiality, process and the transience of the physical world through the field of sculpture. Horne’s artwork references the domestic and architectural space by utilising both industrial and commonplace materials. Through experimentation in the studio, Horne re-examines and plays with the order of functional materials within the context of contemporary sculpture. She employs methods of casting and assemblage whilst combining structural materials like concrete, floor vinyl and Styrofoam with found items such as beach balls, plastic balls and wine sacks to create sculptures exploring tension, contradiction and balance.
Anna Horne is a featured artist in the JamFactory touring exhibition CONCRETE: art design architecture .
A JamFactory workshop hosted by Bathurst Regional Art Gallery.
