ARTEXPRESS 2023

Fri 2 June - Sun 27 August

ARTEXPRESS 2023 will make its way to the region for the first time with Mudgee Arts Precinct hosting the exhibition next month.

The annual exhibition features outstanding artworks created by NSW Visual Arts students for the 2022 Higher School Certificate.

Gallery Curator, Lizzy Galloway said ARTEXPRESS began in the late 1950s and has been exhibited at the Art Gallery of NSW since 1983.

“ARTEXPRESS has been a stepping stone for many renowned Australian artists including Ben Quilty and Jasper Knight,” Ms Galloway said.

“It is now an annual series of exhibitions which enables students and teachers to see some of the best art currently produced at NSW schools. The themes addressed in this year’s exhibition highlight issues of importance for students, with many of the exhibited works addressing the impacts of COVID-19.

“The bodies of work represent a range of expressive forms that showcase high quality teaching and offer a learning resource representing best practice in visual arts education.”

Bodies of work nominated for ARTEXPRESS represent all the expressive forms described in the HSC Visual Arts syllabus – drawing, graphic design, painting, printmaking, photomedia, designed objects, textiles and fibre, sculpture, documented forms, ceramics, time-based forms and collection of works.

ARTEXPRESS is a joint initiative led by the NSW Department of Education and the NSW Education Standards Authority and has been curated and presented by Mudgee Arts Precinct.

The exhibition will be on display from 2 June – 27 August 2023. It includes the free opening from 6pm on Friday 2 June.

Mudgee Arts Precinct is open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm. Entry is free.
