Ros Auld: Adventures in Ceramics
Sat 14 December 2019, - Sun 26 January 2020,
This survey exhibition embraces some 40 years of Auld’s practice. From her studio set in the landscape near Orange, her explorations have grappled with transforming the mysteries of the ancient craft of ceramics into an expressive art medium.
Earlier work includes thrown and functional pots, informed by Japanese aesthetics, and salt glazed jars and platters, followed by the development of large painterly ceremonial style platters. The influence of primitive art is obvious in the development of sculptural pieces including wall-works and incorporates other materials such as steel and bronze. The later major works consist of large hand-built vessels and sculptures. These works are landscape based, expressing both the strength and fragility of nature using materials from the earth.
Collaborative works with other artists are also included.
