2nd Bowenfels Rail Viaducts Photography Workshop – BOOKED OUT

Wed November 27

Free - Bookings essential

The first workshop filled in a day, so we’re pulling on a 2nd workshop.

This workshop is being run free of charge but places will be strictly limited.

The 1870 and 1921 Bowenfels Railway Viaducts are an impressive pair of structures on the outskirts of historic Bowenfels, NSW. The 1870 sandstone viaduct is one the oldest stone arch railway viaducts in New South Wales. The 1921 viaduct, built as part of the line duplication, is the last of such works dominated by brick arch construction.

John Holland Rail and Transport for NSW have teamed up with Arts OutWest to provide a rare opportunity to see these impressive structures up close, learn a bit more about their history and enhance your photography skills during this fun and fascinating workshop.

You will be joined by Gary Estcourt, Cultural Heritage Officer from John Holland Rail and Steven Cavanagh, photographer and artist. Steven will help you to get the best out of your photography with guided tuition and conversation about photography’s rich history, your camera controls, learning to see and landscape photography.

Gary has a background in transport heritage with an interest in the importance of places that provide connections between people. He is currently with John Holland Rail after a long career working in the Office of Environment and Heritage.

Steven Cavanagh is an artist, curator and educator who works primarily with photography and moving image and more recently installation and performance. Steven completed a BFA majoring in photography at the National Art School 2003, Fine Art Hons in photography 2004 and an MFA in Photography 2010. Steven is a Photomedia lecturer with the National Art School and the Australian Centre for Photography in Sydney. Steven is also Communications Officer for Arts OutWest in Bathurst.

Steven exhibits regularly. His work is held in private and public collections. He has written for numerous publications, been awarded art residencies and been a finalist in multiple photographic awards. Steven divides his time between Hill End, Bathurst and Sydney.

If you’re interested please send Gary Estcourt an email at: gary.estcourt@jhg.com.au to reserve your place.
