Cowra Hospital Curatorium

The new Cowra Hospital has just opened. Work by 16 local artists is featured in the layout: paintings, sculpture, works on paper, ceramics, photography – and even an award-winning film work, Dust Cloud by Trudi Refshauge, that people spending time at the hospital can watch via a QR code.

Artists and curatorium had a walk-through in November where artists were invited to speak about their work and to hear about the final stages for the completion and opening of the new hospital.

“A highlight was the maternity courtyard collaborative sculpture bringing together Aboriginal artist Dyan Coe with local sculptor Ken Hutchinson. The result was a beautiful, tactile work utilising granite and locally sourced and recycled wood and showcasing cultural iconography. The sculpture is imbued with deep meaning and historic references,” said Arts OutWest arts and health coordinator Steven Cavanagh.

We worked with NSW Health Infrastructure to deliver just under $30,000 of artwork commissions. The Cowra Hospital Curatorium includes Arts OutWest, Cowra Regional Art Gallery and The CORRIDOR Project.
