Regional councils will receive funds to transform their main streets into vibrant, people-filled spaces.
The funding comes from the state government’s renewed Open Streets Program, aimed at turning roads into busy spaces through creative, community-driven events.
Each event will see temporary road closures that transform streets into lively community hubs that include everything from live music and arts to food, markets, and family entertainment.
The funding extends from 2025-28.
- Cowra Shire Council, Bell Beats Music and Arts Festival, $350,000
- Forbes Shire Council, Forbes Street Dreams, $108,550.50 “A project to centre on youth culture, music, and street art.”
- Lithgow City Council, Lithgow International Schnitzel Festival (SnittyFest), $350,000 “a quirky celebration of multicultural food culture with a focus on the schnitzel-drawing visitors to local eateries and showcasing regional hospitality.”
- Orange City Council, Zest Fest, $350,000 “a large-scale event aimed at celebrating the city’s food, wine, art and outdoor lifestyle.”
Orange City Council also received Open Streets funding in 2024 for Zest Fest. Bathurst Regional Council received the funding in 2024 for the Dhuluny Aboriginal Art Markets and Concert
