Congratulations to Bathurst Regional Art Gallery Director Sarah Gurich on being elected President of the NSW Public and Regional Galleries Association.
From Museums & Galleries NSW:
On 17 February, 20201 members of the Regional and Public Galleries Association of NSW (RPG NSW) met to elect the following Executive Committee.
President: Sarah Gurich, Bathurst Regional Art Gallery
Vice President: Georgia Connolly, Art Gallery of NSW
Public Officer: Bridget Guthrie, Tamworth Regional Gallery
The following members retired: Brett Adlington, Lismore Regional Gallery and Tara Callaghan, Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery.
The RPG NSW represents the interests of more than 40 publicly funded galleries from across regional and metropolitan NSW and the university sector.
Regional Galleries are located throughout the State, and not always in the larger centres. Often established as a result of lobbying by local communities these spaces provide a professional facility to house existing local collections, and to show the best local, national and international art to communities deprived of the opportunity to see art regarded as an important part of life in the metropolitan centres.
The objectives of RPGNSW are to:
- advocate for the development, promotion and activation of a vibrant membership with a strong identity ensuring the sustainability, awareness and contribution of the sector on all levels;
- support the development, presentation, interpretation, conservation, collection and preservation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and cultural material;
- encourage an appreciation of the visual arts & crafts arts in NSW by supporting a program focus on education and audience engagement; and
- promote the conservation and development of public collections of visual arts, craft and design related cultural material.
