20 Jun: Cowra Breakout 80th Anniversary Commemorative Mayoral Dinner

2024 marks the 80th Anniversary of the Cowra Breakout.

The breakout from the Cowra Prisoner of War Camp in 1944 was the only land battle fought on Australian soil during the Seond World War. This event shaped many aspects of our town and we have cemented a strong relationship with the Japanese people and Government in the years since.
Cowra has endeavoured to tell the story of the Breakout in a dignified and respectful manner, and our emphasis is on the reconciliation that has been nurtured since the tragic events of 1944.
This year’s commemorations will take place over the 4th-5th August 2024 in Cowra. The Mayoral Dinner is a key event within the program of events for the two-day period of commemoration.
