Until Sept 13. The play ‘Kangaroo’ by Miranda Gott has been specially recorded and is available via the Q Theatre’s website as an audio experience.
The play had seasons in Bathurst and Cowra and was to tour to The Joan in Penrith in August. Instead the cast headed into a recording studio (before regional NSW lockdown) to record the play.
KANGAROO: The Audio Experience is now streaming for FREE until Sep 13
You can stream (similar to a podcast) on demand by heading to the Joan’s page here: https://www.thejoan.com.au/events/kangaroo-2021/
Kangaroo required relatively few rewrites because its three protagonists function primarily as narrators. Add the vividness of its characters and the poeticism of its language, and it emerges as a distant cousin of that greatest radio play of all, Under Milk Wood.
And like that work, Gott’s people and language animate stories of life in a small town – in this instance, somewhere in the outback’s farthest reaches. – John Shand, SMH
Arts OutWest is proud to be a partner in the Kangaroo project.
