Light painting is an exciting and creative photographic process that offers an opportunity for students to engage in a unique learning experience. The essence of light painting is in its visual magic – its wow factor. After exploring the world of light painting, students will never look at photography in the same way again. Light painting explores and celebrates the very essence of photography, which is the recording of light. Light is a powerful symbol that can add to a student’s sense of wonder and mystery about the world. The residual benefit of light painting workshops for schools is not only the experience that the students take away with them, but it provides teachers with a valuable visual photographic resource of creative and artistic images made and hence owned by the students. These images are really useful in applications such as school literature and other online publications. That sense of ownership over a work of photographic art is an important outcome for building a student’s faith in the artistic process.
