Raising Films Australia – Making It Possible pilot program NSW

Filed : Arts and funding opportunities, Local and industry news .

Women living in regional NSW who work in the screen industry and had careers impacted by parenting and caring responsibilities are encouraged to apply for “Making It Possible.”

The “Making It Possible” Pilot Program is a free one-day course, with follow-up mentoring. The program is specifically designed to address the needs of women who are returning to work after a career break or who are working alongside caring responsibilities but feel stuck and unable to move forward towards their goals – whether that be a promotion, moving up a level in responsibility on set or starting their own projects. It will provide a holistic approach to personal, career and creative advice, mentorship and education while providing access to a free crèche during the course.

To be held in city and regional locations across New South Wales, in Sydney, Penrith, Byron Bay, Dubbo and Bega.

Course Dates:

  • Friday, 7 December 2018 – Sydney (applications now closed)
  • Wednesday, 28 November 2018 – Penrith (applications now closed)
  • Friday, 15 March 2019 – Byron Bay
  • Friday, 5 April 2019 – Bega

Raising Films Australia is based on a UK model that is dedicated to supporting and advocating for parents and carers in the screen industry and the “Making It Possible” Pilot Program is based on Raising Films UK’s course held in 2017.

There are considerable barriers for women’s participation in the Australian screen industry in regards to gender equity and this has been exacerbated by the current down turn in film production in Australia. Subsequently, work opportunities for those in the screen industry are highly competitive, with many available work opportunities being snapped up by those who are flexible in their availability, willing to relocate for work and who have current industry experience and connections.
