A nature inspired works in paper and steel called “Unfurl” is the inaugural exhibition by Orange artists, Colleen Southwell and Peter Worsley.
Underpinning “Unfurl” is mindful celebration of our natural surroundings and the everyday – taking time to notice the design brilliance of nature and bringing it to the fore through sculptural pieces.
Colleen’s collection for Unfurl includes a series of finely detailed botanical and insect inspired artworks. Her three-dimensional works combine detailed drawing in pigment, fine gauge wire, thread, watercolour and found materials. Each delicately assembled piece is mounted onto paper using entomology pins giving the appearance of floating, then framed in custom made box or entomology frames.
These fine and fragile pieces are juxtaposed against the strong forms of Peter’s sculptural work, also inspired by the natural environment, interpreted in steel and beautiful in their simplicity. Constructed in new and reclaimed steel and timber, assembled and welded, the strength of Peter’s work lies in crisp lines and simple forms.
Together, the collection is a nod to the beauty in our surroundings discovered when we take time to pause, look , see.

Artists Statement – Peter Worsley
Peter is a practicing professional in spatial science and three-time Paralympian. He has overcome significant physical obstacles to develop and perfect his love for sculpture.
A self-proclaimed “hobbyist” sculptor, Peter spends evenings and weekends ensconced in his workshop, conjuring and crafting works of art from new and reclaimed steel.
