DIY Sand Timer – Like sand through the hourglass…

Monday 9 July and Monday 16 July 10am-12pm noon

Ages 8+ (6+ accompanied by an adult) – maximum 10 children per session

Cost $15

Taking Inspiration from Thomas Pearson’s hand-blown hour glasses in Orange Air this workshops explores colour, form and function. Children will plan, decorate and assemble their own working sand timers. This workshop includes a mini-tour of the Orange Air Exhibition and introduction to the artists ideas and processes.

Pinhole Photography With Jude Keogh

Tuesday 10 July 10am

Ages 10+ max 8 Children

Location: East Room (next to Orange Regional Gallery)

Cost: $25

Local artist Jude Keogh will guide children through the design, construction and use of their own pinhole camera. Each child will capture and develop a unique set of images, discovering the magic of traditional photography through active participation in the process.

Experimental Drawing Lucky Dip

Wednesday 11 July – 10am-12:00noon

Ages 8+ – maximum 10 children

Location: West Room (next to Orange Regional Gallery)

Cost: $15.00

Everyone’s a winner in this energetic drawing class focused on experimental mark making and the creative exploration of different drawing media. Each child will select their own unique ‘lucky dip’ of mini still life objects to work from, completing a number of works on paper

Winter Sun-Catchers – Waxes Paper Window Stars

Thursday 12 July Tuesday 17 July – 10am-12:00noon

Ages 8+ (6+ accompanied by an adult) – maximum 10 children per session
Location: East Room (next to Orange Regional Gallery)
Cost: $15.00

Taking inspiration from Nathalie Hartog Gautier’s colourful geometric overlays in Jali this workshop explores symmetry, repetition, colour and light. Using simple folding techniques children will plan and make a beautiful waxed-paper sun catcher for their window. This workshop includes a mini-tour of the Jali exhibition and introduction to the artist’s ideas and processes.


Art Tools

Friday  13 July and Friday 20 July – 10am-1:00pm

Ages 8+ – maximum 10 children per session
Location: West Room (next to Orange Regional Gallery)
Cost: $15.00

This sculpture/painting/drawing workshop is focused on creative thinking and adapting to unexpected outcomes in art making. Children will spend the morning designing and making their own set of sculptural mark-making tools using natural and recycled materials. After a short break they will continue into an experimental mark-making activity combining their newly created art tools with a variety of different media to create several works on paper.
Things may get messy! Children should bring an apron/wear suitable clothing.

Sculptural Assemblage with Jaq Davies

Thursday 19 July – 10am-12:00pm

Ages 8+ – maximum 10 children per session
Location: East Room (Orange Regional Gallery)
Cost: $15.00

Local artist Jaq Davies is back for another inspiring sculpture workshop focused on creatively combining a range of weird and wonderful materials, proving (almost) anything is possible with some imagination and a hot glue gun!
