An exhibition of works created by legendary Australian author and illustrator Leigh Hobbs will be on exhibit at Parkes Library during February.

Leigh Hobbs: Characters from the Drawing Board takes a close look at some of Leigh’s characters, in particular, Old Tom, Horrible Harriet and Mr Chicken. The exhibits shares information about Leigh, his art and the development of his characters.

Manager Cultural, Education & Library Services, Shellie Buckle, is looking forward to the exhibition arriving from Books Illustrated in Melbourne.

“It is very exciting to follow up Leigh Hobbs’ visit last year with an exhibit of his works. On display will be illustrations of his famous book characters, as well as some treasures from his studio including original sketches and sketch books” said Shellie

Quote from Leigh Hobbs: “I think the kids who like my stories are primarily drawn to the characters. And to the humour. I would like to think as well that they are responding at some level to a good heartedness within the story as far as how the characters relate to each other and the world in general.”

Leigh Hobbs: Characters from the Drawing Board opens on February 5 and will be available for viewing until 2 March 2018.
