Welcome to our BIG list of arts and cultural events happening in the NSW Central West.
DISCONNECTIONS Ross Cohen
Sun August 4 - Sat September 7Free admission
To describe his work and practice, Ross quotes Irish painter Francis Bacon, who said “painting … is an accident. I foresee it and yet I hardly ever carry it out as I foresee it. It transforms itself by the actual paint. I don’t in fact know very often what the paint will do, and it does many things which are much better than I could make it do.” The Peisley St Gallery is delighted to show the first solo exhibition in quarter of a century of STUART TOWN artist ROSS COHEN.
DISCONNECTIONS is an exhibition of new works in OILS by the reclusive born-and-bred Stuart Town artist.
Ross Cohen grows grapes along the banks of Store Creek 10kms south of Stuart Town, where he is a third-generation local, and he prefers to describe himself as a farmer rather than as an artist. Educated in Bathurst at the then Mitchell College, Ross studied with some of the leading artists of the region, several of whom purchased his student works. Over the years, Ross has travelled extensively throughout remote Australia and outback landscapes are a major influence in his work.
